Snorkel Boat Takes on Water in Route to Mā‘alaea Harbor

Maui Police Department Kīhei Patrol officers responded to the Mā‘alaea Boat Harbor due to a report of a vessel taking on water on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at approximately 11:44 a.m.

Investigation revealed that the snorkel boat Mahana Nai‘a, carrying 52 passengers and three crew members had motor issues while in route back to Mā‘alaea Harbor.

The Coast Guard responded to the Mahana Nai‘a approximately one mile offshore and assisted by dewatering the vessel.

The vessel was escorted back to Mā‘alaea Harbor without incident.

No injuries were reported.
