How Low Will Gas Prices Go?

Hawai‘i’s average price for a gallon of gasoline dropped again this past week, according to the AAA Hawai‘i Weekend Gas Watch. The current state average for a gallon of regular is $3.29, eight cents less than last week, 29 cents less than last month, and 72 cents lower than a year ago.
In Wailuku, the average price of gas per gallon as on Jan. 22 is $3.58, down seven cents from the previous week, 21 cents lower than last month, 66 cents less on the same date last year and down significantly from the area’s record price of $4.98 in May of 2011.
In Hilo, the average gas price is $3.27 per gallon, down four cents from last week, 28 cents less than last month and 71 cents less than this time a year ago.
Honolulu’s average price of $3.13 dropped by eight cents a gallon since last week and is 34 cents less than last month and 77 cents less than on this date a year ago.
“Hawai‘i motorists enjoyed lower prices again this week,” said AAA Hawai‘i General Manager Liane Sumida. “But Hawai‘i remains the only state above $3 a gallon, while state average prices in a majority of the states on the mainland fell below $2 a gallon on www.fuelgaugereport.aaa.com.”
