When planning a fun day exploring West Maui, get excited, because there is just so much fun in the sun to be had! Whether you are a visitor or a resident, there is always something new to check out in West Maui all year round.

Hands down, the #1 best thing to do in West Maui is whale watching. If you are visiting Maui during the Winter months (roughly November-March), you have an amazing opportunity to see the North Pacific Humpback Whales during their Winter migration. Without a doubt, Whale Watching on Maui will truly be one of the most amazing adventures of your life!

Beach hopping in West Maui is always fun with a host of beautiful beaches to explore. Launiupoko Beach Park is great for beginner surfing or stand up paddle boarding, Lahaina Breakwall for experienced surfers, and Ka’anapali Beach for snorkeling, ocean kayaking and a chance to jump off the famous Black Rock point. If you drive further North, Napili Bay (Turtles are here!), and Kapalua Bay are great beaches for sunbathing and snorkeling with kids. Sightsee and beach hop even further North, and check out the magical Honolua Bay; always great for sunsets, snorkeling during the Summer, and a wonderful place to watch surfers during the Winter months.

West Maui is one of the most popular places throughout the Hawaiian Islands for golfing. Here, golf enthusiasts can explore Ka’anapali Golf Courses’ 36 holes, improve their game with private or group lessons, and check out the BMW Ultimate Golf Challenge (September 11-13, 2015). Just past Ka’anapali, golfers will find the infamous Kapalua Golf Resort, home to PGA’s Annual Tournament of Champions every January. Kapalua’s Plantation Course continues to be one of the best in the world, rated #1 in Hawaii, and #17 in ‘America’s Top 100 Public Courses’ by Golf Digest. At the Kapalua Golf Resort, guests will have a rare chance to play the only over-the-ocean hole on Maui!

Shopping is another fabulous thing to do in West Maui. Here, guests have a myriad of shopping options on Lahaina’s Front Street including: art galleries, street vendors, craft markets, boutiques, surf shops, and jewelry stores. Whalers Village at Ka’anapali Beach is one of Maui’s most beautiful outdoor shopping areas, located just steps off the sand; home to a full spectrum of stores ranging from trendy boutiques to high end fashion retailers.

Dining in West Maui is truly spectacular with a wide array of options. Located in the Olowalu area, everyone should check out Leoda’s Bakery. This is a great place for coffee and desserts, baked goods, and delicious salads and sandwiches. In the historic Lahaina Town, guests can find many casual eateries, and choose from a wonderful selection of restaurants. Favorite Lahaina restaurants include Star Noodle (omg yum!), Fleetwoods on Front Street (get a seat at the rooftop bar for an awesome view), the Lahaina Grill, and Kimo’s for oceanfront dining. Leilani’s and Japengo are great options in Ka’anapali, and Merriman’s, the Pineapple Grill, and Sea House Restaurant are popular choices near Kapalua. Maui Brewing Company’s flagship location is tucked in Kahana; an awesome place to check out for beer tastings and excellent brew food.
