Slurry Sealing in Wailuku Heights, March 9-27
By Maui Now Staff
The County of Maui Department of Public Works will conduct slurry sealing work in the Wailuku Heights area between March 9 and 27, 2015.
The work is part of the department’s pavement preservation project to extend the life of County roads.
The project will start at the intersection of South Alu Road and Kuikahi Drive, and move north on South Alu Road to Kualau Street. The work will continue from the south end of South Alu’s cul-de-sac and move north.
Motorists are asked to be attentive to traffic control personnel and to expect delays as traffic will be restricted to a single lane.
County officials advise that access to driveways in affected areas will not be available due to a drying time of approximately 4 to 6 hours; however, temporary walkways will be provided at designated sites.
Work is scheduled to take place Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents who will be directly impacted, are being notified through door hangers two days prior to work in their area. On these days, residents are asked to park on the roadside outside of the work zone and to stay off the resurfaced areas to allow proper curing time. Residents are also asked to shut off irrigation systems during road work.
Department officials say the slurry seal serves to protect the top layer of asphalt from oxidation and wear caused by exposure to the sun, air, water and chemicals such as oil and gasoline.
