Maui’s ʻĪao Valley State Monument Reopens After Flash Flooding
By Maui Now Staff
State crews worked to clear mud and debris from ʻĪao Valley State Monument on Maui before reopening the area at noon on Thursday, March 5, 2015.
The park was close on Wednesday due to rain and flash flooding in the stream.
Crews from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources reopened the area following an assessment of conditions. Department officials say the later opening also gave additional time for the stream to subside.
According to department reports, flooding was reported across the road at the county’s nearby Kepaniwai Park, as well as a lot of debris and rockfalls on the County road between Kepaniwai and ʻĪao that needed to be cleared.
