Due to a staff shortage, a refuse collection route in the Haʻikū area was not serviced on Friday, March 20, 2015.  County officials say the trash route collection for this area will take place Saturday, March 21, 2015.

The affected areas in Haʻikū include the following roadways: Awalau Road, Pico Tract, Upper Ulumalu, Rice Camp, Lepo Place, Kili Place, Kīhau Place, Holokai Road and Mōpua Place.

Staff shortages have also resulted in shortened hours at the Hāna Landfill hours today and tomorrow. The Hāna Landfill will close at 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 20, 2015.

County officials say the closure is necessary as the department must be able to ensure safe operations and meet the minimum State Department of Health operating requirements of our solid waste permit.

Department officials apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the community for their understanding and cooperation.
