The Nominating Committee for the State Commission on Water Resource Management begins interviews of applicants today for an open position on the commission.
Once complete, the committee will send the names of at least three individuals to the Governor, who will nominate a candidate for the vacant post.
The Commission has jurisdiction and final authority over matters relating to the State Water Code.
The Governor appoints five of the seven members through the Nominating Committee. The other members include: the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources who serves as the chairperson of the Water Commission; and the Director of the Department of Health who serves as an ex-officio voting member.
State law requires that each member have “substantial experience in the area of water resource management”
The nominee will serve for four years beginning on July 1, 2015. The post is unpaid; however, certain expenses such as travel are reimbursed.
The appointment is also subject to state Senate confirmation.
