Westin Kāʻanapali Celebrates Earth Hour

The Westin Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Villas celebrated Earth Hour by going dark from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on March 28. The resort participated in the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment to renew its pledge to change climate change with the help of its guests and associates.

Earth Hour encourages individuals, businesses and governments around the world to take positive actions for the environment and show this support by switching off their lights for one designated hour.

For the ​sixth consecutive year, The Westin Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Villas, its guests and associates, pledged to change climate change with Earth Hour festivities on its North Ocean Lawn and a one-hour lights-out observance.

“At The Westin Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Villas, we are committed to living well and we believe that living sustainably is a huge part of that,” said Angela Nolan, resort general manager. “We celebrate sustainability daily through our regular operations and are thrilled to come together with our resort ʻohana for Earth Hour, which makes a unified visual statement about our strong commitment to being pono with the environment.”

During the Earth Hour celebration, guests enjoyed chair massages by Spa Helani, food and refreshments at Pailolo Bar & Grill, glow-in-the-dark shaved ice and a hula hoop contest. Activities also included magic by Brenton Keith, performances by Maui All-Star Cheer, a fire-knife show by Wailele Lūʻau and stellar navigation by Kala Baybayan.

The Westin Kā’anapali Ocean Resort Villas also hosted a silent auction to benefit Lahainaluna High School.

The resort is also actively involved in reducing the environmental impact of business activities, improving and innovating practices aimed at conserving natural resources, minimizing waste and pollution, enhancing indoor environmental quality, establishing and reporting on key environmental performance indicators and raising environmental awareness among associates, guests, business and community partners. It is focused on reducing energy consumption by 30 percent and water consumption by 20 percent by the year 2020.
