To update Maui County’s 2010 Hazard Mitigation Plan, the Maui Civil Defense Agency encourages all residents to participate in a survey to assess their level of disaster preparedness.

The online survey may be taken anytime through July 31, 2015.

The survey includes questions about residents’ perceptions of natural hazard risks in Maui County, including the impacts from natural hazards on their home, neighborhood or place of work, and their experiences with hazard insurance, such as flood or hurricane.

“We encourage residents to take a few minutes to complete this important survey, to help us save lives and protect property,” said Emergency Management Officer Anna Foust. “As residents become more aware of the potential hazards that could impact our county, our community becomes less vulnerable, more resilient, and recover more quickly when disaster does strike.”

The Hazard Mitigation Plan addresses potential natural hazards that could affect some or all of the county’s residents and is needed to ensure eligibility for future funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
