The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management announced that due to insufficient staffing, the Hāna Landfill in East Maui will close early at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week, May 14 -16, 2015.

County officials say the closure is necessary for the department to ensure safe operations and meet the minimum State Department of Health operating requirements of the County’s solid waste permit.

Insufficient staffing prompted similar action last week in Hāna.  An announcement was also made for the Molokaʻi Landfill for the period running from May 13 to 16, 2015.
