Wailuku Woman Dies After Being Pulled from Waters at La Perouse

A 32-year-old Wailuku woman died after being pulled from the water at Keoneʻōʻio or La Perouse Bay in South Maui on Friday night.

Police have since identified the woman as Chana Mari Ichinotsubo.

According to police reports, the woman was hiking with a friend and taking photographs in the area when a wave swept the woman into the ocean.

The incident was reported at around 8:16 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015.

Police say the friend brought the victim to shore and then initiated cardio pulmonary resuscitation before calling for help.

Police say first responders continued life saving efforts, but the victim die at the scene.

The cause of death has not yet been determined and is pending autopsy results.
