The National Weather Service’s Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu issued and update at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, regarding Tropical Depression Four-E, located about 735 miles east-southeast of Hilo.

Although scattered thunderstorms persist around a weak surface low now located about 600 miles south-southeast of Hilo, conditions do not appear to be favorable for significant development of this system during the next two days.

The chance of formation through the next 48 hours is low at 10 percent.

Thunderstorms have recently diminished around an area of low pressure located about 960 miles southwest of Honolulu, but environmental conditions are expected to remain conducive for further development as it moves slowly toward the west northwest over the next couple of days.

Formation chance through the next 48 hours is medium at 50 percent.

Elsewhere, no tropical cyclones are expected through Friday afternoon.
