“We are excited that Dr. Ellis will be joining our team,”said Dr. Clarke. “He’s one of less than a handful of dentists in the United States that are dual-trained prosthodontists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons. He brings a wealth of experience that will prove invaluable for our island and our state.”

“My family and I have desired to return to Hawai‘i for many years, and now Dr. Clarke has provided us that opportunity by welcoming me into his very busy and growing practice,” said Dr. Ellis. “I’m very thankful to be back and look forward with great anticipation to serving our community.”

Following graduation from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1985, Dr. Ellis began his career as a solo practitioner in general dentistry for six years in Dallas, Texas, before returning to Baylor for six years of post-doctoral residencies in prosthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

He brought his family to Hawai‘i in 1997, when he joined the Pacific Regional Dental Command at Tripler Army Medical Center as a member of the teaching staff in the oral surgery residency-training program. Following a brief return to Texas, he was re-assigned as chief of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Tripler and director of the residency training program in 2002.

In 2005, he returned to Baylor University Medical Center and soon assumed the role of program director of the oral surgery training program from 2008 to 2012, following a deployment to Iraq in 2007 for service as chief of oral surgery and facial trauma for the 325th Combat Support Hospital at Al Asad Marine Corps Air Station.

Dr. Ellis recently completed his final period of educating oral surgery residents as a teaching staff member and attending surgeon at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

“Dr. Ellis offers Maui a unique background that will nicely compliment our practice and community, particularly his interests and training in dental implants and esthetic and functional oral and facial reconstruction,” said Dr. Clarke.

Dr. Ellis and his wife, Cindy, have been married for 32 years.

“Cindy is a former elementary school teacher, and for many years, has been active in oral health education for elementary students through the presentation of puppet shows,” said Dr. Ellis. “We’re hoping that she can create this opportunity here on Maui.”

The Ellis’ have two children. Their daughter Mallory practices family law in Austin, Texas. Zachary, 20, is a chemical engineering student at Texas A&M University.
