No Tsunami Threat to Hawaiʻi After 7.0 Indonesia Quake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi after a preliminary magnitude 7.0 earthquake reported at 11:41 a.m. HST on Monday, July 27, 2015, in Papua Indonesia, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The USGS reports the quake was located:

• 145 miles W of Abepura, Indonesia;
• 153 miles W of Jayapura, Indonesia;
• 195 miles W of Vanimo, Papua New Guinea;
• 212 miles ENE of Nabire, Indonesia; and
• 743 miles SSE of Koror Town, Palau.

The quake comes following another strong quake measured at 6.9, reported at 6:50 p.m. HST, a day earlier on Sunday, July 26, 2015, in the Fox Islands/Aleutian Islands region near Alaska.  There were no advisories issued for Hawaiʻi following the weekend quake.
