A woman and her five-year-old daughter who were having trouble getting back to shore aboard a stand-up-paddle board on Sunday afternoon are safe after being helped by bystanders.

When the Lahaina fire crew arrived at 5 p.m., the woman and her child were already back on shore, according to department reports.

Fire officials say strong offshore winds hampered the woman’s efforts to return to shore.  Authorities say the woman and her child were visiting Maui from Denver, Colorado.
