Two Hospitalized Following Molokaʻi Home Fire

On Saturday evening, 9/19/15, firefighters on Molokaʻi responded to a single-story residential structure fire on Kamiloloa Place in Kaunakakai. Firefighters received the call at 8:49 p.m. and arrived at 8:52 p.m. The Kaunakakai crew reported defensive fire conditions, indicating a structure fully engulfed in flames. It was later discovered that only the garage was on fire. The fire was called under control at 9:45 p.m. and extinguished at 11:33 p.m.

The occupants, a couple in their late seventies and a female friend who stopped by to visit, were in the main 12046826_10154218961119867_8708397049784241065_nhouse. Police officers first on scene, ran to the home to alert the homeowners. They eventually pulled the female homeowner and the female friend out through a bedroom window. Firefighters arrived and located the remaining male occupant and brought the man out through a rear exit.

The two women were taken to Molokai General Hospital for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. The male occupant was evaluated by paramedics and released at the scene.

The fire was contained to the garage area and did not spread to the main living area of the home. An aircraft fuselage and other items stored in the garage were destroyed in the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage estimates were not available.

Crews from Kaunakakai, Hoolehua, and Pukoo responded to fire.

Two individuals were taken to the Molokaʻi General Hospital following a home fire on Kamiloloa Place in Kaunakakai on Saturday night, Sept. 19, 2015. Their condition was not available at last report.

Officials say the fire burned a detached garage at the front of the single-story home.

The initial call was received at 8:49 p.m.

Maui Fire Services Officer Edward Taomoto said that upon arrival three minutes later, firefighters reported defensive fire conditions, indicating there was a structure fully engulfed in flames.  It was later discovered that the flames were at the detached garage.

Department officials say three people were in the home to the rear of the property at the time of the fire.

Crews from Kaunakakai, Hoʻolehua, and Pūkoʻo responded to the fire and remained on scene into the night, performing mop up operations.
