Heavy rains prompted the issuance of a brown water advisory today at Honokahua Bay in West Maui.

The State Department of Health Clean Water Branch issued the advisory saying the public should stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff, “due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris.”

If coastal waters are turbid and brown, the agency advises the public to stay out.
