Due to insufficient manpower, the Molokaʻi Landfill will close early at 1 p.m. from today, Oct. 6 through Oct. 10, and again from Oct. 13 to 17; and the Hāna Landfill will close at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015.

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management made the announcement saying the closures are necessary for the department to ensure safe operations and meet the minimum State Department of Health operating requirements of its solid waste permit.

With a soon-to-be filled Equipment Operator position approved by Council, county officials say they expect the landfill closures to be reduced.
