SLIM Offers Simple Structure Building Class

The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui at UH Maui College will offer a new class on simple structure building on five Tuesdays evening starting Oct. 13.

During class sessions, students will learn about essential tools and how to use them safely, and how to frame a building,

By the end of the class, each participant will have the ability to create and finish a 4-by-8-foot shed.

Instructor Cliff Rutherford, who has years of experience in the building trade as well as teaching carpentry skills, loves to empower people to “do-it-yourself.”

Men and women with or without skills are welcome.

The class is held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost for the 15-hour class is $369. Classes take place on the UHMC campus in the Vocational Building.
