No Advisories After 3.9 Earthquake Near Kaʻena Point

There were no immediate advisories issued following a 3.9 preliminary magnitude earthquake reported at 12:23 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015 about 9 miles SE of Volcano on Hawaiʻi Island.

The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports that the quake occurred at a depth of 4.5 miles and was located:

  • 3.6 miles NNE of Kaʻena Point
    4.6 miles SSW of Puʻu ʻOʻo Crater
  • 9 miles SE of Volcano, Hawaiʻi
  • 9.4 miles W of Kalapana
  • 20 miles SSW of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaiʻi
  • 27 miles S of Hilo, Hawaiʻi
  • 60 miles ESE of Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi
  • 223 miles SE of Honolulu, Oʻahu
