“Come sample fresh mochi or even help in pounding and making your own mochi,” said Warren Osako, president of the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center Board. “Mochi is an island favorite, and here on Lāna‘i, the Japanese community came together to celebrate the New Year with the making of mochi. The special rice is a symbol of prosperity, and making mochi on New Year’s day is an exciting way to celebrate.”
