Lāna‘i to Hold New Year’s Day Mochi Pounding, Making
The Lāna‘iCulture & Heritage Center, Lāna‘i ‘ohana and Pῡlama Lᾱna‘i are asking the public to join them for mochi pounding and making, a New Year’s Day tradition.
The free event will be held in front of Hotel Lāna‘i from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Come sample fresh mochi or even help in pounding and making your own mochi,” said Warren Osako, president of the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center Board. “Mochi is an island favorite, and here on Lāna‘i, the Japanese community came together to celebrate the New Year with the making of mochi. The special rice is a symbol of prosperity, and making mochi on New Year’s day is an exciting way to celebrate.”
Hotel Lāna‘i is located in the heart of Lāna‘i City.
