Maui Now’s Malika Dudley recently interviewed Ashley Borsum, Director of Operations at Diane’s Gymnastics Academy. DGA offers a wide variety of classes for keiki on Maui – everything from mommy and me classes to preschool sessions to competitive gymnastics.

There are even opportunities to host birthday parties (up to 30 kids) complete with a gymnastics class, obstacle course, games and a party room. View video below for details. A list of the classes they offer are detailed below.

Mommy & Me:  Ages 2-3

Mommy & Me Class is for children ages 2-3, with the accompaniment of a parent or caregiver. Children and caregivers will have full access to gymnastics equipment with guidance of the coach. Toddlers are introduced to basic foundations of gymnastics training in a fun and encouraging class structure.

Beginner/Intermediate Tumbling consists of strengthening of basic tumbling skills with the introduction to new skills. Skills taught are handstands, cartwheels, round-offs, front and back handsprings, and flipping. All students will learn safety in their tumbling, as well as build the strength to perform such skills.

Intermediate/Advanced Tumbling

Intermediate/Advanced Tumbling is for students who have already attained their back handspring.  More advanced skills will be implemented, based upon the students’ tumbling level. Intermediate/Advanced Tumblers can expect refinement of previous skills, strength building for future skills, and plenty of practice flipping, twisting, and connecting.

Open Gym

Open Gym is for Regular Class Students (Ages 5+). With supervision of coaches, participants are encouraged to practice gymnastics skills but will have the option to choose what they would like to work on with full access to the gymnasium. Open gym is an exciting, energy burning, fun adventure for all. It’s on Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
