A new Hawaiian Marine Life Hale opens in West Maui near the iconic Puʻu Kekaʻa or “Black Rock” in Kāʻanapali.

The hale, located along the beach path, was created under a partnership between the Maui Ocean Center and the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.

The hale features small live animals like sea cucumbers, sea stars, hermit crabs and brine shrimp.

It is the first off-site location opened by Maui Ocean Center to share information on Maui’s underwater world and educate guests on Hawaii’s marine ecosystems.

A marine naturalist will be on hand daily between 9 a.m. and noon to interact with guests and answer questions and share ocean stories and facts with visitors to Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.

“We are pleased to partner with Maui Ocean Center to give guests the opportunity to explore Maui’s underwater world without ever leaving the resort,” said Tetsuji Yamazaki, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa’s general manager. “The new marine life hale will help educate guests on Hawaiʻi’s marine ecosystems and raise awareness for the many animals that call Puʻu Kekaʻa home.”

The space is ideally located close to the ocean, allowing guests to see and learn about the variety of ocean creatures that can be found right out front of the resort.
