Hoʻokipa Beach Park Closed Today Due to High Surf
The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced that Hoʻokipa Beach Park will remain closed today due to high surf.
The National Weather Service issued a High Surf Warning for the north and west shores of Molokai and the north shore of Maui through 6 p.m. Thursday.
The NWS is forecasting surf heights of 30 to 40 feet along the north facing shores of Maui and Molokaʻi this morning, lowering to 20 to 30 feet this afternoon.
Surf along the west facing shores of Molokaʻi is forecast to be 20 to 30 feet this morning, subsiding to 15 to 22 feet this afternoon.
The elevated surf resulted in multiple rescues in West Maui on Wednesday. There was also large surf at the famed Peahi “Jaws” surf break on Wednesday.
