Local nonprofit Mālama Family Recovery Center (Mālama Nā Makua A Keiki) is the recipient of a $7,338 donation from ʻOhana Fuels as part of its “Fuel up. Do good.” community giving program.

Mālama was chosen to receive a portion of all “top tier” gasoline purchases made at any of the eight ʻOhana Fuels locations on Maui between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2015. ʻOhana Fuels also provided space and materials for a car wash held at their Wākea Avenue Minit Stop gas station in December 2015, which raised an additional $255.

Mālama is the only women-specific addiction treatment center on Maui and the only place where young children can live with their mothers during the recovery process.

Their Early Learning Center provides free childcare and early developmental screenings for all clients’ children and BabySAFE Program ensures pregnant women have access to treatment, prenatal care and case management so they can get clean and give birth to healthy babies.

“We are tremendously grateful to ʻOhana Fuels,” said Mālama Clinical Director Dr. Lisa Ponichtera in a announcement. “This support will have a huge impact because the funds will go directly to the Early Learning Center and BabySAFE, which largely rely on grants and donations to operate. We can’t thank ʻOhana Fuels enough for helping us continue changing and saving the lives of so many women, children and babies in our community,” said Dr. Ponichtera.

ʻOhana Fuels first began the “Fuel up. Do good.” community giving program in 2012 as part of its commitment to supporting organizations and missions important to its customers. Each year four different nonprofits or community groups on Maui and four on the Big Island are selected as beneficiary organizations.
