The Queen Kaʻahumanu Center invites the public to join in an annual high energy celebration of the Chinese New Year starting at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016. This year, Chinese astrology will celebrate the Year of the Monkey, which is the ninth of the 12 animals in the recurring 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle.

The celebration begins at center court with a traditional display of martial arts, firecrackers and a colorful lion dance.

“A Chinese cultural thread has long run through Maui. We invite our entire community to join us for this exciting celebration”, said Toni Rojas, QKC marketing director. “As the 14th is considered a lucky day in the Year of the Monkey and also marks Valentine’s Day, we encourage you to bring your loved ones, feed the lion for good luck and fortune, and enjoy the festivities. Kung Hee Fat Choy,” she said.
