Firecrackers were lit at the Front Street entrance of The Wharf Cinema Center on Wednesday, Feb. 10, to awaken the sleeping lions and ring in Chinese New Year, and the Year of the Monkey.

Hundreds of spectators reportedly attended the event as lion dancers made their way to Center stage where more than 300 of Lahaina’s school children awaited.

Au’s Shaolin Arts Society martial arts demonstration and lion dancing brought cheers from the children with their performance.
