Large Tree Falls Near Kamaʻole I; Wind Advisory in Effect
We have reports of a large tree that fell near Kamaʻole Beach Park I in South Maui at around 2:20 p.m. There were no immediate injuries reported, and ocean safety personnel are now on scene roping off the area. While authorities have not said what caused the tree to fall, Maui and the rest of the state are currently under a Wind Advisory due to high pressure building northwest of the island chain.
The National Weather Service reports that the strongest gusts will be found over and around terrain.
The advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. on Thursday with northeast winds blowing at 20 to 30 mph, with localized gusts up to 50 mph.
Motorists, especially those in high profile vehicles, are urged to drive with caution. The National Weather Service also advises that lightweight outdoor objects should be secured before winds increase.
