The Infrastructure and Environmental Management Committee will receive presentations on alternative, pesticide-free weed and pest control solutions today, Tuesday, March 22 in the Council Chamber.

Committee Chair Elle Cochran made the announcement saying the committee has invited Maui district Construction and Maintenance Supervisor Stephen Rodgers from the state Department of Transportation, Executive Director Jay Feldman and Public Education Associate Drew Toher of Beyond Pesticides, Attorney Sylvia Wu of the Center for Food Safety, Engineering and Landscaping Manager Duane Sparkman of The Westin Maui Resort and Spa and CEO Joseph Jankauskas of Cutting Edge Formulations Inc., makers of Avenger Organic Weed Killer.

“I look forward to hearing about best practices and case studies from our resource speakers on the effectiveness and practicality of alternative pest and weed control,” Cochran said. “If the county can implement a pesticide-free program, it will set an example for the community and the environment will thank us.”
