Maui’s Derick Sebastian ‘Ukulele Anthem Goes Viral

Maui’s Derick Sebastian fulfilled a lifelong dream recently. On March 10, 2016 he performed the National Anthem on the ‘ukulele in front of a sold out crowd of 19,000 fans at the Staple Center. His performance was then featured on Sports Center and videos online have gone viral.

“I’m still shaking and the energy has been incredibly indescribable. Thank you ALL so much for the love and support…and BIG THANK YOU TO THE LA LAKERS!”

Malika was born and raised in Hilo. She began her career in news at KGMB9 in 2007. As a part of their weather team, Malika was nominated for two Emmy Awards and won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Journalism Award for her reporting on Hawaii’s tsunami damage in 2011.
