Free Meals Offered at Summer Upward Bound

The Upward Bound Program at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Program organizers say meals will be provided to all eligible children enrolled in the Upward Bound six-week Summer Academy free of charge.

To be eligible to receive free meals at a residential or non-residential camp, children must meet the income guidelines for reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program. Students must also be fully enrolled in the Upward Bound program for this site only.

Children who are part of households that receive foods stamps, or benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations, or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families are automatically eligible to receive free meals at open sites on Maui.

Program administrators say acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

The Upward Bound Summer Academy runs from June 6, 2016 until July 15, 2016. Meals will be provided at the sites and times as follows:

• Breakfast: 7:15-7:45 a.m. Monday-Friday, UHMC Pāʻina Food Court (Upward Bound Summer Academy Participants only)
• Lunch: 12:15-12:45 p.m. Monday-Friday, UHMC Pāʻina Food Court (Upward Bound Summer Academy Participants only)
• Dinner: 5:45-7:15 p.m. Waterfront Apartments (Upward Bound Summer Academy Participants prepare meals in dorms)
