The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management reported that a wastewater overflow of approximately 222 gallons occurred on Monday, May 9, 2016, at the intersection of Ilikahi Street and Alio Street in Lahaina.

Department officials attribute the overflow to grease in the mainline. The overflow started at 7:35 p.m. and was stopped by 7:55 p.m., according to department reports.

Wastewater flowed from a manhole and along the roadway into a nearby storm drain on Ilikahi Street. The department reports that no wastewater reached the ocean.
