Women Helping Women Forum and Candlelight Vigil
Women Helping Women hosts a community forum and candlelight vigil on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 5 p.m. in the Ka Lama building, Rm 103 at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.
The community forum will focus on domestic violence and the recent domestic homicides in the Maui and Hawaiʻi Island communities. Organization representatives say Women Helping Women will also host a candlelight vigil to honor the memories of the women and children killed.
Immediately following the forum, at approximately 7 p.m., participants will gather outside Ka Lama building to light candles and observe a moment of silence to honor Maui’s most recent victim, Leticia Basuel.
Candles will also be lit to remember Kehau Farias, Aracely Hoffman and her children Clara Hoffman and John Hoffman, Jr.
The forum will feature brief presentations from local organizations who will discuss available resources in the community as well as strategies for helping victims and perpetrators get help. A facilitated discussion for community members will follow with the goal of healing and taking action.
