Learn to Spot Fraud at AARP Workshop

AARP Hawaii and Kaunoa Senior Center are teaming up with financial fraud specialists to offer a free “Outsmarting Fraud” workshop at the center on Wednesday, June 15, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Anyone in Hawai‘i can be a victim of financial fraud. Even for sophisticated investors, fraudsters are masters of persuasion, skilled at tailoring pitches to match the psychological profiles of their targets.

The panel of fraud experts come from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Office of the Securities Commissioner, Hawai‘i’s BBB and the Maui Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.

The panel of specialists will address questions from the audience.

The workshop will help consumers learn:
• common tactics used by today’s con artists,
• simple steps to protect yourself from fraud and increase your cyber security o what to do if you suspect fraud and
• information about Maui’s top frauds.
