Brown Water Advisory for Kīhei, Honokahua and Honolua
A Brown Water Advisory has been issued for Honokahua Bay, Honolua Bay, and Kīhei on the island of Maui due to heavy rains.
The advisory area in Kīhei includes the Kōʻieʻie Fishpond as well as the shoreline fronting the Kalepolepo Beach Park.
The Department of Health issued an advisory saying the public should stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff “due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris.”
“If coastal waters are turbid and brown,” the department advises the public to stay out.
