Manpower shortage, Central Maui. Maui Now graphic.

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division, announced that due to a staff shortage, residential refuse on part of a collection route in Kahului was not picked up on Monday.  The department also reported mechanical problems on a residential refuse route in the Makawao-Pukalani area.

Affected areas in Kahului include: South, West and East Papa Avenue; as well as West and East Hawaii Street; and all surrounding streets and roads.

Affected a in Makawao-Pukalani include: Makani Road; Ahuwale Place; Ahualani Place; Koehana Place; Iini Way; Olino Way; Ulana Street; Kapuahi Street; Kaiaulu Loop; Kaupea Street; Makalani Place; and all surrounding streets and roads.

All missed pickups are expected to be completed today, Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016.

Representatives with the Solid Waste Division apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the community in advance for their understanding and cooperation.
