The Maui Department of Water Supply requests that all consumers in Wailuku, Kahului, Kīhei, Wailea, Mākena, Māʻalaea, and Pāʻia areas conserve water due to damage to the ground water source at ʻĪao tunnel and to the ʻĪao surface water intake.

The facilities were damaged during a severe weather event and flash flooding that occurred on Sept. 13 and 14, 2016.  The ʻĪao Flood cleanup continues with both Kepaniwai Park and the ʻĪao Valley State Monument closed until further notice.

The conservation request has been lifted for the Lahaina area as the Lahaina intake system for surface water has been repaired and the Lahaina Water Treatment Plant is operating at normal levels.
