A pedestrian suffered fatal injuries in a weekend crash on the Kahului Airport Access Road at the intersection of Hāna Highway in Kahului.

The pedestrian has since been identified as Thomas James Partyka, 64, of Kula.

The incident was reported at 4:54 p.m on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 when a white 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe multi-purpose vehicle, traveling east-bound on the airport access road, collided into a pedestrian who was walking in a marked crosswalk as it turned right onto Hāna Highway.

The pedestrian was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries at the Maui Memorial Medical Center ICU on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016.

The operator of the Hyundai was not injured in the collision.

This was Maui County’s 21st traffic fatality for 2016, compared to 21 the same time last year.
