An estimated 1,330 customers in the Kahului area experienced a power outage at around 11:28 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, during a period of gusty winds.

All customers had power restored by 12:12 p.m.

After crews inspected power lines in the area, it is suspected that high winds caused the lines to “swing short” or come into contact with each other along Papa Avenue, said Shayna Decker, director of communications at Maui Electric Company.

The outage affected the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center and surrounding businesses, as well as traffic lights in the area.
