Women Helping Women’s New Lānaʻi Shelter Receives Support

The new Women Helping Women’s emergency domestic violence shelter on Lānaʻi will receive support from volunteers during a service project this weekend.

Members of the Rotary Club of Honolulu will join family and friends on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, to install flooring inside the shelter, paint the exterior, and build a pet kennel outside the shelter.

The plantation-era simple home is the island’s first such shelter and was provided to Women Helping Women by Pulama Lānaʻi.

Upon completion of this “Weinberg Friends” volunteer effort, RCOH will recommend another charity for a separate $10,000 Weinberg Foundation grant.

Terry George, RCOH President Elect, who is leading the Club’s participation explained, “We are proud to participate in the honorable work of the Women Helping Women, along with members of the Rotary Club of Lānaʻi. We applaud the vision of WHW that all families deserve to be safe and well cared for. Our Club is dedicated to service above self, and this partnership with the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and Women Helping Women allows us to accomplish that vision locally.”
