Imua Family Services to Open West Maui Center in New Year

Imua Family Services will expand in January 2017 by opening a new location in Lahaina at 930 Waineʻe Street, in the Peter Longhi building, formerly home to Kaiser Permanente’s West Maui office.

Organization leaders say the new location will allow current clients residing in West Maui more access, more timely services, as well as special programs designed to support families with unique needs. The new West Maui location will allow the agency to more efficiently serve its clients in those communities and on Lānaʻi.

Currently, Imua Family Services operates from its Early Childhood Development Center centrally located in Kahului, which opened in April of 2015.  In addition, Imua operates a satellite center on Molokaʻi at the Molokaʻi Community Health Center.

The non-profit organization is the largest single provider of early childhood intervention and development programs for children and their families in Maui County and in the State of Hawaiʻi.

Executive Director, Dean Wong said, “Imua provides direct service to 2,300 children and their families annually; however there are many more that need it, but are not currently accessing services. Expanding to West Maui will physically place us closer to our families that live in the area and better provide them with the ongoing resources they need during their children’s critical development years. In addition, our new space will help to eliminate transportation barriers many clients have because of lengthy commuting with small and fragile children.”

The expansion comes as Imua Family Services celebrates 70 years of service in 2017 for special needs children in Maui County.
