Temple Bell Stolen from Wailuku Jodo Mission
The temple Tsurigane bell from the Wailuku Jodo Mission was reported stolen this week.
Reverend John Hara is seeking the public’s help from anyone who may have information or may have seen suspicious activity. Rev. Hara said the bell is made out of mixed metals like copper and bronze, weighs approximately 70 pounds, and is 12″ in diameter and 19.5″ tall.
He estimates that the replacement value on a 70 pound object would be $2,500.00.
It is believed that the bell was taken sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
The bell was used during weekly services at the Buddhist temple located on Central Avenue in Wailuku.
