In Honolulu, today’s average price is $2.98, which is one cent more than last Thursday, five cents more than on this date last month and 57 cents higher than last year.

The Hilo average price is $3.07, which is two cents above last Thursday, six cents higher than on this date last month and 51 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

“Hawai‘i continues to have the highest U.S. state gas price average, but Honolulu drivers are paying about the same amount to fill up as those in Los Angeles and San Francisco,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Oil industry analysts expect gas prices to be higher in 2017 than in either 2016 or 2015, so it’s a good idea to brush up on how to reduce your fuel usage.”

Sumida said motorists can save money on fuel by regularly checking their tire pressure, taking excess weight out of their vehicles, and shopping around virtually for the lowest gas prices with the free AAA Mobile app, which shows the cheapest gas price nearest to them right on the home screen.
