Filipino Chamber to Hold Scholarship Golf Tournament

The Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation will hold its Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Kahili Golf Course.

The tournament provides funds for the Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation’s scholarship programs, said Sharon Zalsos, president of the Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation.

“It’s a fun tournament for a very good cause” said Zalsos.

Since 1995, the chamber has awarded scholarships to 137 high school seniors and five students at the Maui Culinary Academy.

“Fifteen students were awarded scholarships in 2016 through the foundation’s generous partners and because of the success of last year’s Scholarship Golf Tournament” said Bill Ruidas, chairperson of the Golf Tournament.

There are three different levels of sponsorship: Platinum ($1,100 for six golfers); Gold ($500 for three golfers); and Team ($375 for three golfers).

Tee Sponsors are also available at $100. Golfers will have an opportunity to win a hole-in-one prize at each of the par three holes sponsored by Valley Isle Motors.

Player can also win door prizes with the grand door prize courtesy of Philippine Airlines.

The deadline for the three person full scramble tournament is March 31, 2017, but those who submit their paid application by March 15, 2017, will be eligible for an early-bird drawing sponsored by Friends of Yuki Lei Sugimura.

Scholarship applications are due by March 31, 2017. Applications have been mailed to high schools on Maui but may also be downloaded online at  or you may call Scholarship Committee Chairperson Richard Minatoya at (808) 385-0088.

The Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawai`i Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, is the charitable and educational arm of the Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce. The Maui Filipino Chamber was established in 1994 and its mission is to promote, represent and advocate the interests of the business community in the County of Maui. The Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation’s events include seminars and workshops, awarding of scholarships, the annual scholarship golf tournament and the Maui Fil-Am Heritage Festival held in October to celebrate Filipino-American History Month.
