Miles Kauhaahaa of Maui, took home first place in the drop-knee contest at the 2017 Mike Stewart Pipeline Invitational. The contest saw epic performances, and was held in clean conditions with perfect five to eight foot waves. It was the first professional bodyboarding event of the season, and had a mix of competitors ranging from top seeds on tour, to international invitees, and locals alike. Sixteen local athletes competed in the round of thirty-six.

Miles won the all Hawaiian final with a near perfect heat total of 18.50. “Everyone wants a Pipeline title and a Pipeline Championship, so I’m stoked,” he said in an interview with the APB World Tour. “Everyone was going for the lefts, and I wanted to pick out better rights at Backdoor,” he said. “It’s the breeding grounds, the proving grounds. You have to come here and prove yourself.”
