Glass Blowing Event to Benefit Hui O Waʻa Kaulua
Makai Glass in Hāliʻimaile will host a benefit for the Hui O Wa’a Kaulua Maui Polynesian Voyaging Society on Saturday, March 18, 2017.
The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. with live music by Eric Gilliom, Live Glass Blowing by Makai Artists, and a short film premier of the Launch of Mo’okiha O Pi’ilani by Epic Aeriall Productions.
Makai Glass is located at 903 Hāliʻimaile Road in Makawao. All food and beverages will be provided by Kama Hele Cafe.
$20 Tickets are available via Eventbrite and Indiegogo. Guests with paid admission are entered into a raffle for a hand blown Makai Glass Polynesian Voyaging Canoe donated as an incentive to attend. Other Live Auction Items will include a chartered sail on Mo’okiha O Pi’ilani and other donated items.
Hui o Wa’a Kaulua uses the Mo’okiha O Piliani, a traditional polynesian voyaging canoe, as a living classroom to teach keiki and adults traditional Polynesian wayfinding and voyaging used by Hawaiian Ancestors.
Second generation captains and navigators, taught by students of Mau Piailug, continue to teach Maui’s community using hands-on experience and a traditional system of mentoring.
