Maui Parks Dept. to Hold Meeting, Lottery for Craft Fairs

The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation will conduct a public meeting to conduct a lottery for the scheduling of craft fairs at the Lahaina Civic Center and Kīhei Community Center for the period of July 2017 through November 2017.

The lottery meeting will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 9 a.m. at the Parks Conference Room in the War Memorial Gymnasium Complex.

Anyone interested in obtaining a permit to conduct a craft fair at either the Lahaina Civic Center (Social Hall) or the Kīhei Community Center (Main Hall) must attend this meeting, and register for the lottery.

To register for the lottery, all interested individuals and organizations must complete an application, which includes a copy of the current general excise tax license and a resume showing that the applicant or promoter has had past experience conducting at least one gift and craft fair or similar event, or any other comparable qualifications.

The Gift and Craft Fair Lottery Application – FY2018 can be obtained by visiting the Parks and Recreation permits page on the County of Maui website. The application, including the required attachments, must be submitted either in person at our DPR Permit Office, located in the War Memorial Complex at 700 Halia Nakoa Street in Wailuku, or by email to the department permit email address at [email protected] by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017. Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted or registered to participate in the lottery. No applications will be accepted on the day of the lottery.

During the lottery, the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation or his representative(s) will randomly select valid previously-registered applicants who shall then select from the available dates and locations listed below.

Following the selection process, the balance of registered names for the Lahaina Civic Center facility will be randomly placed on a waiting list for the opportunity to reserve dates that may become available during the assigned period pursuant to the Rules Relating to Gift and Craft Fairs on Maui County Parks Properties.

Dates available for the Lahaina Civic Center include: 2017: July 2, 16, 30; Aug. 6, 20, 27; Sept. 3, 17, 24; Oct. 1, 15, 22. Due to planned Capital Improvement Program projects at Lahaina Civic Center for public health and safety purposes, dates after October will not be available for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2018. Dates in 2017 available for the Kīhei Community Center are as follow: Aug. 27 and Nov. 12, 2017.

To complete registration for the lottery, individuals must also have a valid, legal photo identification issued by a recognized government agency of the U.S.A. and corporate (for-profit or non-profit) or non-individual applicants (partnerships, limited liability corporations, associations, etc.) are required to submit proof of the business entity (i.e. articles of incorporation, partnership agreements, etc.), a list of current officers and directors, certificate of good standing from the State of Hawaii Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs, proof of valid 501 (c) (3) [for non-profits], notarized verification that an authorized agent has been given the authority to act for and sign on behalf of the organization with regard to this activity.
