A female visitor was airlifted from the Bamboo Forest Trail in the Kailua area of East Maui after suffering an injury during a hike on Wednesday afternoon.

Pāʻia firefighters received the call at 5:04 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, indicating that the woman was unable to walk after she slipped on wet rocks and injured her ankle near the third waterfall on the Bamboo Forest Trail.

Because of rugged terrain, the fire department’s Air 1 helicopter was dispatched and quickly located the woman about a half-mile above the trailhead.
