Maui Joins March For Science Events on Earth Day 2017

The public is invited to a March for Science Event on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 2017 on the Great Lawn of the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Campus in Kahului.

It’s one of several March for Science events being held across the state, and part of activities in all 50 states and more than 50 countries to rally support for science.

According to the national March for Science website: “Science, scientists and evidence-based policymaking are under attack. Budget cuts, censorship of researchers, disappearing data sets, and threats to dismantle government agencies harm us all, putting our health, food, air, water, climate and jobs at risk.”

The Maui March for Science is a non-partisan celebration of the role that science plays in everyone’s lives. Organizers want to bring together science supporters, from keiki and community members to teachers and practitioners.

The event begins at 9 a.m. with an assembly on the Great Lawn. A March along Kaʻahumanu Avenue (following the Women’s March route) will start promptly at 9:30 a.m. and end by 10:30 a.m.
