In recognition of National Nurses Week (May 6-12) and National Hospital Week (May 7-13), Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard visited Maui Memorial Medical Center on Tuesday.

The visit was intended to show her appreciation and support to nurses and other medical professionals who care for people in our community.  During her visit, Rep. Gabbard toured the hospital, met with surgeons, doctors, nurses, staff, and held a Town Hall meeting with employees who gathered in the hospital auditorium for a congressional update and Q&A session.

“Nurses are the heart of our healthcare system, and I’ve introduced legislation to help recruit, train, and retain nurses, especially in our rural and underserved communities,” said Rep. Tulsi Gabbard in her remarks to Maui Memorial Medical Center nurses and colleagues. “Thank you for what you do, for persevering, for taking care of people, and for being that heartbeat that keeps on serving the people of our community.”

In February, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, who co-chairs the House Nursing Caucus, introduced the bipartisan Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (H.R.959) to secure federal funding for education programs to help grow and support the nursing workforce in the United States. The legislation is endorsed by the American Nurses Association, the American Association of the Colleges of Nursing, and more than 50 other national nursing organizations.
